Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:00:00]:

Welcome back to another episode. And today, we're gonna be talking about digging too many holes. And you're probably wondering what that even means. But are you taking course after course after course? Are you changing strategies again and again and again, instead of staying focused, staying committed to just 1. That's what we're gonna be talking about today, so let's get on to the show.

This particular topic came because a good friend of mine, very big influencer actually, she created this post, And it was a really good post, and I made a comment about digging holes. She was actually talking, you know, about the responsibility of here's Here's the responsibility of the coach, and here's the responsibility of the coachee. And really calling out and just saying like, are you doing A good job as being a coachie. Like, you can't just expect miracles when you hire a coach. And I made this comment about digging holes. And the comment is, and this was something that I realized, myself that I've experienced, that sometimes when you go from strategy to strategy to strategy, when you take a course and then you take this other course and then You sign up for another course. Like, hoping that all of these, like this is gonna be the one.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:01:51]:

This is the one with the gold. This has got the the magic key that's gonna unlock everything for me. But what you end up doing is digging for gold. And you go out into your backyard, And you got your shovel, it's like, I'm gonna dig right here. And you dig there a couple of scoops, and you're just like, yeah, the gold's not here. Let me walk over here. Let me start digging here. And then you just dig a couple of, you know, like, maybe 2 or 3 scoops, and you're just like, yeah.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:02:21]:

It's not here. You know, each time, each of these holes is probably only 6 inches or 8 inches deep or 12 inches deep. And before you know it, your backyard is full of all of these holes. I don't know what to call them. Like, if you can just picture this, like, almost like like a like some sort of a gopher has Has come and, like, dug dug up your your yard like there's these little mounds of dirt, and that's what it's like. You don't get to find the gold because you didn't put the time in to dig deep enough, to focus on this one spot. And, and, on this particular, post, you know, a client of mine actually wrote. She's like, yes.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:03:05]:

That's exactly it. It's like running in place and wondering why you're not there yet. That's exactly it. It's running in place. It's almost like running on the treadmill and expecting to be down the street, where you're not getting anywhere because You weren't focused enough. You're not doing the thing. And so this whole digging a bunch of holes, This is something that I had to realize myself, how I I thought I was just getting distracted. I was like, oh, but I'm really interested And I really don't wanna wait till next year till this person offers this program again and would would sign up for the program and get excited.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:03:45]:

It's just like, Oh my goodness. Like I'm in this program. I'm in this program. I'm this I'm in this one. And then I started like listing out all the different programs or memberships that I was a part of and wasn't participating in Barely any of them. And the reason why I was barely participating in them is because I only have so much Energy. And if you only have so much energy and you're trying to spread it across, let's just say you're taking at the moment, you're taking, like, 3 courses. You're trying to learn 3 different things, and you've only got so much energy.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:04:17]:

And like, you think about like, oh my goodness. Like, there's live calls and there's modules And there's homework that I have to do. Like, you're going through the motions, but at the same time, you're also thinking about, oh my god. I, like, I I still gotta do my homework and, watch the replay from last week in that other course. And so you're constantly spinning your own wheels. So you're never fully focused on any one strategy, any one program. And so how how do you Expect to get out of that program what the program was designed to give you. How many programs are you currently in? How many strategies? How many holes are you digging? And are you even spending enough time digging a hole? You know, a lot of times, like, I actually will have Clients will come to me, and I see this in them because it's one of the questions that I ask them.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:05:11]:

Like, well, okay. So how many programs are you in? Because I wanna know, like, what's what's your available energy to put into our work together? How committed are you to yourself and to your work. And so a lot of times, this actually ends up being like a light bulb moment for clients. They're like, I didn't even realize how much I'm doing across so many different strategies or programs, not to mention life outside of your business. And let's face it, you know, we're wives, spouses, you know, we've got children, you know, we've got family commitments. But then, like, think about in your business, I've got a going down through the list of things that you have to do. And even if you have team that supports you, You're still guiding your team. You know, you're the vision of your company.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:06:02]:

So think about this when it comes to, you know, leveraging speaking opportunities. You know, a lot of times like clients or people actually will DM me and like, oh, yeah. Like, I want to, you know, get into speaking. I want to get on more podcasts. I want to get more visible in front of my ideal clients. They only have to do it. If you want to be on podcasts, Well, you have to have some sort of a strategy that you're reaching out to podcast hosts. And that doesn't mean you just Do it 1 week and you send out maybe 2, and then you're like, see this whole podcast thing.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:06:36]:

It like, nobody ever responds. I'm gonna give this up. And so I'm gonna go look for be on live stream shows. And so now you're looking for live stream shows and live stream posts, and you reach out to a couple of them. Nothing. So then you change strategies again. I'm gonna go look at Facebook Groups that bring in guest experts. And then you change that again because it just didn't work.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:06:59]:

Same thing with, like, trying to find clients. Let me try this DM strategy. Let me try posting regular content. Let me try a live stream strategy, and you just keep changing things. And if you think about it, in a previous podcast episode where I was talking about keeping the strategy, sticking to the strategy. Because if you are trying to and the name of that podcast was, you know, basically, like, how successful people measure and view success. If you're trying to lose weight, you're not gonna, like, do the keto diet for a couple of days and say, well, this I haven't lost any weight. This doesn't work.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:07:34]:

I'm gonna try the low carb diet. Well, the and you only do that for, like, maybe, like, 3 or 4 days. You're like, this doesn't work. I'm gonna try the South Beach Diet now. And you just keep changing strategies. You haven't even given your body a chance to adjust to this new diet. And the same Thing for a strategy, you've got to stick to something. Just go all in on it.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:07:57]:

Something that I got from a coach that I worked with, and she's, She is a just a lovely mentor of mine. And that is like, do less better. Why have a business where you are working so hard, and you're getting burnt out in your own business. You're your own bot. Why do you keep changing strategies? Let's look at the book, the E Myth, where it talks about, like, a small business needs to act like a big business. And when you're a big business, you need to Act like you're a small business. So as a small business, as you're you're starting out, you're maybe a few years into this, you just feel like your growth has been stagnant lately for the past 3 months, look at your strategy. Is it working? Are you trying to do too many things? Are you trying to be on too many platforms at one Time.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:08:41]:

I am a huge fan of and this is what I tell anybody who is looking to get into the online space or to start creating regular content. I always say start out Small. Do not try to be on every platform 3 or 4 times a day. Like, you don't even have the content library or vault to support that. So for example, 3 times a week, I'm gonna post on this particular platform. And when you get really good at that, then you can say, I'm gonna do 4, And now I'm gonna do 5. You know, one of my repurposing strategies now is anything that I write, I can just read that and turn it into a video, turn that into a reel. That's the way that I can take 1 piece of content, and now it's actually 2 p in 2 different forms.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:09:25]:

It's in written and it's also in a real form. Theoretically, we could just, like, take the text and actually make that into, like, some sort of a little video. So again, It's a real. It's a TikTok. But the point is, like, are you digging too many holes at one time? You know? Are you trying to dig here, and then you're And then you go over here, and you're trying to dig there, and you go back to that first one, and let me start another another hole over here. You just don't have the energy, And no wonder why you feel like your business is stagnant. It's in one place. And this is the whole reason why I think Speaking is one of the fastest way to grow your business, to fastest way to grow your email list, fastest way to organically, if you don't wanna be paying for Facebook ads, to get known and get positioned as the expert, because speaking always puts you in front of qualified leads.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:10:18]:

This happens to be like the 1st episode that you ever listened to, and you're just like, how does that how does that an audience mean that they're prequalified leads? And the reason why they're prequalified leads is because they raise their hand, to say I want to be there. I'm interested in this topic. I'm interested in who the speaker is. I bought a ticket. I paid a membership. I paid my annual dues. And this is the content that is available. Like, it's gonna be part of a yearly conference, a monthly meeting, a special event.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:10:51]:

You know? It's Speaking always attracts the right people. Wanna hear your topic and be in your audience, and that's why they're prequalified leads. So what I have found, and my clients have found this also, that when they're speaking I mean, the people who get on a jump on a call with you, who then raise their hand and say, I want to learn more about how to work with you. They're basically going to be selling themselves to you about why you should take them on as a client, why you would be a great client for them. This is exactly what happens. And this is why I love using speaking because it's so darn efficient. It's one of my strategies. I say one of because also like being on social and doing some live streams, there's so many different forms of speaking.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:11:38]:

But I am digging 1 hole, 1 big deep hole. And it is working really well for me and my clients. I just wanna share with you and encourage you to look at How many holes are you digging right now? How many programs are you involved in? Where is your energy going? Where do you need to reevaluate where your energy is going. What's working? What's not working? And do you even enjoy being on that platform? Because one of the big things that I say Speaking has got to mesh with your personality and also your lifestyle. There's a whole other other episode on that, And you can go listen to that. I won't dive into that right now. But let's start thinking about where we're putting our energy. Are we putting our energy in too many places so that Whatever the strategy is, we're not able to focus our energy right there.

Laurie-Ann Murabito [00:12:29]:

And if you were looking for support to get into speaking, or you just, It's like don't know even where to begin, but something inside of you is calling you, even if you feel like you're very shy. I'm a reform painfully shy girl who accidentally became a professional speaker, So I'm not somebody who just thinks that speaking is a good idea. I actually made a very good living as a professional speaker. You can book a call with me at chat with la. Con. And I will share with you which of my programs would be a good fit for you based on the conversation that we're gonna have because I'm gonna ask you some more in-depth questions about your business, about your goals so that I know where to guide you.
